Our story :

Our aim at Tortue de Mer is to create light summer wear that is both beautiful and affordable: cotton kaftans, cover-ups and hot weather light-weights in a huge choice of colours.

Tortue de Mer came to life on the French Riviera in 2006. Isabelle, the founder, had been unable to find colourful cotton beach kaftans for her little daughter Lola. After searching her native Nice, as well as London and Paris on week-end trips, Isabelle turned to the internet. A few clicks later, searching 'kids beach kaftans' Isabelle was suprised to find the following mothers forum posting:

" I want to buy kaftans for my girls (5 and 7) to wear on the beach and around the campsite etc.. I want 100% cotton. You know, the light voile stuff, not necessarily white, but pretty and practical. I have found two for myself, but nothing for the girls. Anyone any ideas? "

Here was another mother looking for exactly the same thing. Isabelle set out to fill this demand and Tortue de Mer was born.

She chose the name Tortue de Mer ( French for sea turtle ) simply because sea turtles live where Isabelle likes spending her free time with friends and family on the beach and in the sea!
